Games   2, 3

Rangers 19,

Indians 2,

5 inn., gm 1

With a 41-day layoff between games due to inclement weather, there was no telling what to expect when the Rangers met up with the Dayton Indians at Howell Field on Sunday, May 19.

With the expansion club still trying to find a viable pitching staff, the Rangers took advantage of several walks (22) and hit-by-pitches (7) in winning both ends of a double-header by the scores of 19-2 and 18-0.

With the number of free passes, hits were hard to come by. In fact, there were only 10 in the first game and 3 in the second game.  But the stat sheet was padded in other areas nonetheless.

In game 1, Joe Becker tossed all five innings for his first win of the season, just 2 victories shy of that illustrious 50-win career mark. Players with multiple hits included Ben Schooler who had a pair of doubles and 4 RBIs, and Chris Jones who had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Nick Gilmore, Eric Becker, and Jonmarc Lippincott all had multiple RBIs.

Game 2 only lasted 2 innings before rain made the field unplayable. However, both coaches agreed not to suspend the game to a later date and rather called the game official. Ben Schooler picked up the win with 2 scoreless innings.  Schooler reached base in all 8 plate appearances on the day. Dominic Kuzujanakis had a double and 4 RBIs. Lippincott added 3 more RBIs. Crazy stat lines for game 2:

Nick Gilmore 0-for-0, 3 runs, RBI, SB
