Game   12

A come-from-behind, walk-off victory capped a warm afternoon of baseball as the Rangers enjoyed an 8-7 win over the first-place Xenia Scouts at Carlisle high school. With the win, the Rangers (8-4) sit just a half-game out of first in the MVABL standings.

The Rangers fell behind early as the Scouts capitalized on leadoff walks in each of the first 3 innings. Brandon Saylor started and lasted just two innings, not allowing a base hit, but issuing 5 walks. Noah Schleinitz tried to stop the bleeding as he relieved Saylor in the top of the third after a leadoff walk. But Lou Ryan and Josh Cvetkovich smacked a couple of run-scoring singles as the Scouts built a 6-1 lead. The lone early run from the Rangers came on an RBI single from Chris Ridl.

Schleinitz settled in and blanked the Scouts in the 4th and the 5th, finishing with 5 K's over 3 innings of work. The Rangers finally came through with 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth off Scouts starter Ryan MacFarlane. Eric Becker started with a single and Jonmarc Lippincott walked. After a popup, Nick Gilmore walked to load the bases. Rob Pederson then grounded into a fielder's choice allowing Becker to score. After another walk to Ben Schooler to reload the bases, Markus Neff pounded a fastball to the right-center field gap to clear the bags.

Down 6-5 now, Kenny Owens took over on the mound in the 6th and worked a 1-2-3 inning. But the Scouts loaded the bases with no outs in the 7th. Newcomer Will Lindsey grounded out to give the Scouts an insurance run. But Owens was able to strike out Cvetkovich and Dakota Reumann to squelch any more damage.

Joe Becker toed the rubber in the final two frames and allowed just 1 hit and no runs to give the Rangers a chance at some late-inning magic. In the bottom of the ninth, facing reliever Alex Schulke, Cooper Nolte walked on 4 pitches. After a popup, Eric Becker hit a hard grounder to shortstop but was able to hustle down the line and force the first baseman to come off the bag on a potential double play opportunity. With two outs, Lippincott worked a walk, and had Joe Becker run for him as the potential tying run. Mike Seebock then came through with a big single to load the bases and turn the lineup over to the top of the order. Gilmore was promptly hit by a pitch to force in a run and make the deficit just one run with the winning run on second base.

Up stepped the reigning MVABL Player of the Week winner Rob Pederson with a chance to win the game. The Scouts handed the ball to lefty reliever Aaron Christy. Christy fired a first pitch strike, but on the next pitch, MVPederson was able to find enough bat to muscle one over the third baseman with enough English to keep it in fair territory, allowing Becker and Seebock to scamper home with the tying and winning runs.

Rangers 8,
Scouts 7

Offensive highlights: Nick Gilmore 2-for-3 RBI; Rob Pederson 3-for-5 double, 3 RBI, GW hit; Markus Neff double 3RBI; Cooper Nolte double
