A hot and humid afternoon of baseball didn't end as expected, as the Rangers dropped a 14-10 decision to the Scouts on Sunday, June 28 at Carlisle high school.
The Rangers faced Scouts captain Ryan MacFarlane, who no-hit the club last season. The team did get 3 hits (2 from Rob Pederson) off MacFarlane through 5 innings, but trailed 7-0 after an error-filled 5th inning proved costly.
A minor comeback started in the bottom of the 7th as Kyle Moyer and Dominic Kuzujanakis started things off with walks. Eric Becker then singled, and an errant throw allowed Moyer to score. One out later, Markus Neff hit a sac fly to right to make it a 7-2 ballgame.
The Scouts took advantage of another error to score twice in the 8th to retain a 7-run advantage. Kujo's 2-run homer, predicted by Brandon Saylor, inched the Rangers back in it at 9-4.
The 9th inning tight strike zone from both sides called for a total of 10 free passes, and after the dust settled, the Rangers' 6-run rally in the bottom of the inning fell short.
Offensive highlights: Cal Walters 2-for-5 RBI; Rob Pederson 3-for-5; Ben Schooler 2b, RBI; Dominic Kuzujanakis HR, 3RBI
Historical Notes: The Rangers are one game away from tying the franchise record for most consecutive games with double-digit scoring.
