Game s  10, 11

Rangers 7,
Machine 2,
game 1

The Rangers finally caught a break with the weather and took advantage with a split DH sweep of the Mad River Machine and the Wild Boars on Sunday, July 10 at Howell Field.

In game one, the Rangers sent lefty Matt Delbridge to the mound, while the Machine countered with righty Matt Sullivan. Shortstop Kody Barth started the game with a leadoff single and stole second. With two outs, Todd Peck singled Barth home for a 1-0 Rangers lead. The Machine countered with a key two-out knock of their own in the top of the second as Nick Montoya doubled to plate a pair and give the Machine a 2-1 advantage.

Delbridge settled down and the defense did its job. The Machine got the first two batters on in the fourth before Matt induced a double play and a strikeout. With runners at second and third in the sixth, Delbridge induced a popup in the infield and a flyout to end the threat.

The Rangers' offense came alive in the bottom of the sixth. Robert Riley led the inning off with a single, and Peck executed a perfect hit-and-run to put runners on the corner. Nick Gilmore then roped an run-scoring single to tie the game. With the infield in and runners on the corners, Jonmarc Lippincott hit a hard shot to short that was hard to handle and Peck scampered home to give the Rangers the lead.  Delbridge would add an RBI single as well, and when the dust settled, the Rangers tallied four runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead.

Lippincott added an RBI single in the 8th and came around to score on a couple wild pitches to round out the scoring as the Rangers won 7-2.

Delbridge picked up his second win of the season, going the distance, allowing 9 hits and striking out 8.

The Rangers spread the wealth in game two against the Wild Boars as four different pitchers scattered three hits over seven innings in an 11-1 victory.  Shawn Schmitt made his first outing a successful one, facing 9 batters and getting 9 outs. Ryan Meinert struck out 2 in an inning of work, and his dad Dave came in to pitch a hitless inning of relief. Joe Becker finished up the outing with two scoreless frames, striking out 2.

Todd Peck's RBI double and Jonmarc Lippincott RBI single put the Rangers on the board in the top of the first inning. The Rangers added another run in the third on a botched rundown play. In the fourth inning, Robert Riley turned his 200th MVABL hit into a two-run home run, his third longball of the season.

The Rangers batted around in the fifth, scoring five times, highlighted by a history-making hit. Kody Barth connected on his league-leading fifth home run, a grand slam, and the 400th home run in Rangers history!!

Gilmore added a sac fly in the 7th to finish the scoring for the Rangers.
