In a mirror image of last week's 7-2 win over the Machine, the Rangers faltered 7-3 to the Machine on Sunday, July 12 at Carroll HS.
Done in primarily from the longball (grand slam and 2-run HR), the Rangers could not equally take advantage of Carroll's short dimensions in left field.
Things looked promising at the start however, as Kyle Moyer started the bottom of the first with a walk and scored on Ben Schooler's RBI double. Machine first baseman Tyler Bundy connected on a grand slam in the top of the second though to give Mad River the 4-1 lead. The Rangers chipped away in the bottom of the second, as Chris Ridl singled and scored on Cooper Nolte's double. Moyer later doubled home Nolte to make it 4-3.
But that was all the scoring on the day for the Rangers. The Machine got a 2-run homer from Dylan Arnold in the fourth and an RBI groundout from Ethan Wilson in the fifth.
Bundy added a 2-run home run for the Machine in the top of the 7th, but the rains came and forced an abrupt ending to the game. Since the Rangers trailed after the bottom of the sixth and did not get to bat in the bottom of the seventh, the score reverted back to the end of 6 innings.
Offensive highlights: Kyle Moyer double, RBI; Ben Schooler double, RBI; Cooper Nolte double, RBI.
