Games 9, 10

The Rangers met up with the South Dayton Slammers at Carlisle high school for a DH tilt with the first place squad. The Rangers overcame a non-existent offense in game 1 to take a late lead in game 2 before the rains kicked in.

In game 1, the Rangers did not have an answer for Slammers ace Jeff Beall. Chris Jones had the lone hit, and Cooper Nolte scored on an error, but the Slammers prevailed 18-1 in 5 innings.

Game 2 was a little less one-sided.  The Slammers scored first in the top of the 2nd on RBI singles from Mark Barhorst and Kyle Markle to take a 3-0 lead off Rangers starter Brandon Saylor. The Rangers provided their first offensive threat of the afternoon in the bottom of the third as Jones and Nick Gilmore started things off with singles off Adam Goodpaster. Rob Pederson would then single home Jones, and Kyle Moyer followed with a sac fly to make it 3-2. Chris Ridl and Jones had back-to-back doubles off reliever Matt Pfeffer to tie the game at 3-3 after 4 innings.  As the skies began to darken, the Rangers' bats brightened up the outlook in the top of the 7th. With one out, Gilmore was hit by a pitch. With Chris Jones running for him, he stole second and moved to third on Pederson's single. Moyer then hit a hard groundball to second, but a mishandle of the grounder allowed Jones to scamper home with the go-ahead run. At that point, the rain forced a suspension of the contest to a later date.

Continued on 8/16.....

The Rangers' third game on Aug 16 was the continuation game from 7/19. With 2 runners on and one out, the Rangers looked to continue their offensive advantage, but had to do so against Slammers ace Jeff Beall. Cooper Nolte started off with a single to left-center to score Pederson. Eric Becker then hit a single to left to plate two more runs. Ben Schooler then singled, but Beall buckled down and got the final two outs without any more damage. With a 7-3 advantage, Saylor was sent back out to the mound to attempt the team's first complete game of the year. But as finishing games has been a roller-coaster this season, the Slammers put together two singles and a walk to start things off, and after a couple of wild pitches, the Rangers' lead was trimmed to 7-6. Saylor then settled down and got a strikeout, groundout, and strikeout to end the game.
