Game   22

Redlegs 19,

Rangers 10

The Redlegs knocked off the Rangers 19-10 to take a 17-16 lead in the Backyard Battle series. The Rangers squandered a 6-5 advantage late as the strike zone grew smaller and smaller.

The Redlegs jumped out early as Joey Watson launched a 3-run home run in the first and Brad Malott added a 2-run shot in the second. But Rangers starter Joe Becker would settle down and blank the Redlegs for the next 4 innings. Meanwhile, the Rangers battled back against Redlegs ace Aaron Carmack. In the third inning, Brandon Marshall roped a 2-run single and Kyle Moyer drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Jonmarc Lippincott added an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-4.

In the fourth, Chris Jones led off with a single and scored on Marshall's RBI hit to tie the game. The Rangers would take a brief lead in the 6th as Marshall would come through big again with a run-scoring single to give the Rangers a 6-5 lead.

As the strike zone continued to be sporadic for both sides, the Redlegs proved to be more patient, acquiring 7 walks in the final 3 innings, to go along with some timely hitting to register 14 runs.

The Rangers settled with just 4 additional runs in the final 3 frames as Matt Wargacki launched his first career longball, and Nick Gilmore punched in his 5th hit of the day.

Offensive highlights: Nick Gilmore 5-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 2 SB, double; Brandon Marshall 3-for-4, 4RBIs; Jonmarc Lippincott 2-for-4, RBI; Matt Wargacki 2-for-4, HR; Chris Jones 2-for-5, 4 runs, 2 SB.

Rangers franchise win total sits at 398. Chris Ridl stole the franchise's 1000th base in league play.
