Rangers 19, Thunder 5, 

7 innings

The Rangers put forth a total team effort in knocking off the Miami Valley Thunder 19-5 on Saturday, August 15 at AIA in Xenia, sweeping the season series. All ten players had hits and 9 different players scored runs and 9 different players had RBIs.

 

In 19 seasons, the Rangers have tallied their fair share of runs over the years, culminating in Saturday’s accomplishments. In the fourth inning, Jonmarc Lippincott scored the team’s 4000th run in MVABL play, and in the fifth inning, Brandon Riley had the franchise’s 4000th RBI.

 

Ben Schubert started for the Rangers and earned the win, scattering 4 hits over 5 innings of work, allowing 3 unearned runs and striking out four.

 

The Rangers jumped on the board in the first inning with a 2-run single from Joe Staten. The Thunder would tie the game at 2-2 on Christian Evans’ 2-run single.

 

The Rangers broke the game open in the fourth, batting around and scoring 6 times. Jake Kingsolver, Rob Armour, Robert Riley, and Staten all had run-scoring singles, and Nick Gilmore added a sacrifice fly.  In the fifth, Todd Peck led off with a triple and scored on Phil Dickerson’s single. Armour, Brandon Riley, and Nick Gilmore added RBIs in the frame to make it 12-2. Thunder outfielder Joey Cherry singled home Zach Carroll to make it 12-3 after 5 innings.

 

In the sixth, Todd Peck blooped an RBI double to left and later scored on a throwing error. Kingsolver added a sac fly to make it 15-3. The Thunder scored another run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 15-4.

 

In the 7th inning, Brandon Riley walked and Gilmore singled before Robert Riley raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. Lippincott added the final tally with a run-scoring single. The Thunder added one more run in their final at-bat for a final score of 19-5.

Historical Notes: Brandon Riley drove in the team’s 4000th franchise RBI. Jonmarc Lippincott scored the 4000th franchise run in league play. Phil Dickerson is 2 RBIs shy of 100 for his career.
