Rangers win

by forfeit

over Indians

The regular season wrapped up with a scheduled split DH against the Indians and Knights at Carlisle high school. However, the Indians did not have enough players and the Rangers won by forfeit.

After a lengthy delay with some extra batting practice, hot dogs, and Dairy Queen, the Rangers welcomed the Knights for a scheduled 7-inning affair. But because Ben Schooler angered the baseball gods to only play 7 innings, the Rangers were forced to play more than that.

Joe Becker started for the Rangers and went toe-to-toe with Knights' ace Rich Navratil through regulation, but would not factor in the decision.

The Rangers scored in the bottom of the first inning as Brandon Marshall doubled home Ben Schooler for a 1-0 lead. The Knights would tie it in the second on a solo home run from Jerel Bristol.

The Rangers regained the lead in the third as Marshall again drove in a run, and Dominic Kuzujanakis followed suit to make it 3-1.

Markus Neff launched his first career home run in the 5th to give the Rangers a 4-1 advantage. However, the lead was short-lived as the Knights battled back with four consecutive two-out hits to tie the game at 4-4.

Becker would K a pair in his final inning of work to finish with 8 strikeouts before handing the ball over to Brandon Saylor.

In the 8th, the Knights took the lead on a two-out single from Anthony Turner. But the Rangers tied the game on Neff's second home run of the game.

Both teams went out quietly in the ninth and Saylor worked out of bases loaded jam in the 10th to set up the game-winning opportunity for the Rangers.

Kujo led off the inning with a double off the right field fence. Jonmarc Lippincott, after failing to twice put a bunt down, singled to center. Matt Wargacki was intentionally walked to load the bases. Chris Jones, in his final plate appearance before going off to college, promptly got plunked with the first pitch for the ever-so-dramatic, walk-off, hit-by-pitch, game-winning RBI.

Saylor struck out 4 in his 3 innings of relief to earn the win. All 3 of Brandon's wins this year have come in outings of 3 innings of relief work.

Rangers 6, Knights 5,

10 innings

Offensive highlights: Brandon Marshall 2-for-4, double, 3RBIs; Kujo 2-for-4, double, RBI; Markus Neff, 2-for-3, 2 solo home runs

Historical Notes: With the win over the Knights, the Rangers collected its 400th franchise victory!
