Game   18

The Rangers were tested Tuesday night as they battled a tough Wild Boars club. With the continued support of excellent pitching and defense, coupled with some timely hits, the Rangers (12-6) came away victorious with a 4-2 victory at Rotary Park.

Daniel Corcino got his second start of the season and was effective over 5 innings, allowing 2 runs, scattering 6 hits and striking out 8.

Both teams had trouble scoring early as Boars starter Gary North matched Corcino with 3 scoreless innings to start the game. In the bottom of the fourth, the Rangers finally got on the board. Rob Pederson worked a leadoff walk. Ben Schooler then reached on a fielding error. Markus Neff then smacked an RBI double to left center. Robert Riley followed with a sac fly to score Schooler. Cooper Nolte then belted an RBI double to the left field fence to make it 3-0. The Boars then went to the bullpen to bring in Brent Cox, but Chris Ridl greeted him with a run-scoring single to make it 4-0.

The Boars mustered a couple of runs in the fifth as Matt Seibert's third hit of the day, a double, brought home Nick Hundley. Jacob Greve followed with an RBI single to make it 4-2.

The Rangers would get a couple runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth, but could not get them in. Hunter Kraynak relieved Corcino in the sixth. North led off with a smoldering line drive to center that Kyle Moyer was able to make a superb diving grab to rob him of extra bases. The Boars would load the bases on two hits and a hit-by-pitch. Kraynak was then able to strike out Colin Minner swinging and induced an inning-ending groundout to thwart off a rally.

The Boars made it interesting in the top of the 7th. With one out, second baseman Mike Seebock made a great back hand play up the middle to throw out pinch hitter Tony Walters. But Jacob Greve would single, steal a base, and go to third on an overthrow, and Jimmy Herold would walk to put the tying run on base. Kraynak then was able to come up big with a swinging strikeout-foultip that Schooler held on to end the game.

Corcino moves to 2-0 with the win, and Kraynak registered his second career save.
