Hits were hard to come by as the Rangers bookended a run in the first and final innings in an eventual 12-2 loss to the Xenia Scouts at Howell Field.

Nick Gilmore put the game in motion with a leadoff walk. After getting balked over to second, and advancing to third on a passed ball, he would score on a sac fly from Rob Pederson to give the Rangers a quick 1-0 lead.

​

Rangers pitchers worked in-and-out of trouble all game as Scouts would get the leadoff batter aboard in 6 of their 8 innings. The only two innings in which the Scouts didn't score were the innings that began with outs. The Scouts would push 3 runs across off starter Ben Schooler's 3 innings of work as right fielder Cal Walters' 2 assists limited the damage. The Scouts tallied an unearned run in Joe Becker's 3 innings of relief.

The game remained within striking distance at 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th with Kenny Owens taking the mound. However, an potential inning-ending out turned into an error that allowed two more Scouts runners to score. Mike Seebock's pitching debut was marred with a 6-run Scout outburst in the 8th inning.

​

The final Rangers run in the 9th came after a leadoff double by Nick Gilmore, and a single by Pederson. Gilmore would score on a subsequent double play.
