Games 4, 5

Rangers 17,

Wild Boars 8,

game 1

The Rangers met up with the Wild Boars at Belmont high school, and despite only 9 players in attendance, managed to return home with a split of a doubleheader. The Rangers won game one 17-8 before falling 10-3 in the nightcap.

The offense turned it on early to kick off the first game. Nick Gilmore led off with a walk and stole a base and came around to score his 100th league run on a double by Cooper Nolte. Brandon Marshall followed with a single, and Jonmarc Lippincott scored Nolte with a single to center. Joe Becker followed with a run-scoring single to make it 3-0.

The lead increased to 9-0 in the second as the Rangers batted around.  Ben Schooler and Andrew Holland had RBI singles, but the big knock came on the grand slam home run by Brandon Marshall. The score stood 10-0 on Ben Schooler's solo home run in the 3rd, culminating in his 100th league run scored. And the Rangers added another run in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Brody Dunlevy.

The Boars' bats finally got to Rangers starter Joe Becker in the bottom of the fourth when a 2-run home run from Dylan Pletsch made it 11-2.

The Rangers advantage increased in the top of the sixth as the team was able to bat around once more.  Dunlevy drove in another run. Eric Becker smacked a 2-run double, and Nolte added an RBI double as well.

Clinging to a 16-2 cushion, the Boars rallied in the 6th with 6 runs. But then the Rangers added another unearned run in the 7th to finish up the scoring.

Joe Becker picked up his 2nd win with the complete game effort.

In game 2, the Rangers called upon newly signed Tyler Schram to start on the mound. However effective, Schram fell victim to several balls finding holes and a couple of costly errors.

The offense was obviously burnt out after game one as the team could only pick up 4 hits off of Boars starter Brandon Lucas. Cooper Nolte kept his extra-base hit streak alive at 4 games with an RBI double. Brandon Marshall added the only other RBI with a ground out.

Andrew Holland was a bright spot on the mound tossing 2 hitless and scoreless innings of relief.
