GameS   12,13

Machine 8,

Rangers 4,

game 1

The Rangers arrived to Howell Field on a rather hot and stuffy afternoon, but the bats remained cold as the team suffered a doubleheader sweep to the Mad River Machine, 8-4 and 4-0.

Brandon Saylor made his debut with the Rangers on the mound and was rudely introduced to the league with 5 straight hits and 5 runs. But once he settled in, he was lights out only allowing 2 more baserunners from the next 17 batters he faced.

Meanwhile, the Rangers had to play catch up. In the bottom of the third, Jonmarc Lippincott singled with two outs. Nick Gilmore then reached on an error. Ben Schooler and Dominic Kuzujanakis singled in succession to drive in two runs. An RBI double from Kyle Moyer in the fourth brought the Rangers within two runs at 5-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, Chris Pluta singled to right to drive in Schooler to make it only a 5-4 deficit. However, the Machine pulled away in the top of the sixth, scoring three more times, and the Rangers ran out of opportunities in the final two at-bats.

In game two, the Rangers just couldn't find any holes in the Machine defense, hitting the ball hard consistently, but always right at a fielder.  The Rangers could only muster 8 hits off of Andrew Madlinger. Joe Becker was the hard luck loser in game two, allowing just three earned runs over 7 innings, while striking out 7 batters.
