GameS   14, 15

Rangers 6,

Wild Boars 3,

game 1

The Rangers took on the second-place Wild Boars on Sunday, July 14 at Carlisle high school and came away with a split of the double header. The Rangers came from behind to win game one 6-3 before falling way short in game two 16-4.

The start of game one was brutal as the Boars jumped on Rangers starter Ben Schooler for 3 straight doubles, but the defense worked out of any more damage as the Boars settled for just two runs in the inning. The Rangers got those runs back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Brandon Marshall and an RBI double from Dominic Kuzujanakis.

The Boars got a sac fly from Gary North in the third as the Boars took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Saylor relieved Schooler in the fifth and blanked the Boars over the final 3 frames to give the Rangers a shot at a comeback.

And that's what happened in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Gilmore started with a leadoff single and stole second. After an out, Schooler walked. Marshall's hot smash to short was too much to handle cleanly, allowing Gilmore to scamper home with the tying run. Kujo followed with a big 2-run double and Kyle Moyer added insurance with a run-scoring single.

Saylor allowed a couple baserunners in the 7th, but no one scored as he picked up his first career victory.

If the Rangers were going to seek a DH sweep, they would have to do so against flame-throwing newcomer Zachery Carey. But with the rookie's dominating performance, the Rangers could only claw their way to 7 hits and 4 runs. Kujo drove in a pair of runs to lead the Rangers offense.
