Game  16

The Rangers kicked off its first split doubleheader of the year with a convincing 17-1 victory in 5 innings over the Beavercreek Orioles at Howell Field.

The hits came early and often, 17 in total, as the team put together a pair of 6-run innings together, followed by a 3-run third and a 2-run fourth to complete the run-rule.

​

Joe Becker kept the O's bats at bay as he tossed his first complete game of the year, the 49th of his career. He allowed 2 hits, 3 walks and an unearned run to lower his team-best ERA to 1.13. Becker finished with 8 strikeouts.

​

As for the offense, Eric Becker set the tone in the top of the first with the first of his career-high 4 hits. The Rangers would load the bases with 2 outs before Kyle Moyer was hit by a pitch to force in the first run of the game. Brandon Ward plated a pair with a single to right field. Jaret Quinn followed up with an RBI single, and Mark Carpenter wrapped up the scoring with a 2-run single as the Rangers built a 6-0 lead.

In the 2nd, Jesse Jones led off with a walk. Rob Pederson singled, and Mike Seebock singled home Jones. Moyer added a sac fly to make it 8-0. Another 2-out rally ensued as Carpenter laced a run-scoring single, and Eric Becker doubled home two more. Nick Gilmore piggy-backed an RBI double of his own to make it 12-0.

The O's got their only run in the third when Vinny reached on a dropped third strike. After a strikeout and a groundout, Josh singled home Vinny.

​

Meanwhile, the Rangers continued to put the ball in play. Moyer led off the bottom of the third, reaching on an error. Ward singled and Quinn plated both runners with an single to left. Eric Becker's second RBI double of the game made it 15-1.

​

The Rangers put the run-rule in effect in the bottom of the 4th when Ward stole second which allowed Moyer to score from third, and then Carpenter singled home Ward for a 17-1 score.

​

The Rangers traveled to Gastineau field for part two of their split DH, facing off against the Wolves in a battle of undefeateds.

Historical Notes:  Eric Becker's first 4-hit game as a Ranger. His 2-run double in the 2nd inning was his 250th MVABL hit and is the 27th player in league history to reach that milestone. Jaret Quinn - career-high 3 RBIs. Joe Becker - tied Shawn Schmitt's franchise record of 174 appearances on the mound.
