Game  18

The question going into this monumental game in franchise history would be how the Rangers respond to their first loss of the season last weekend. In the 800th game played in team history, their mettle would be put to the test in the first inning of a 16-4 eventual win over the Xenia Scouts at Howell Field.

The Scouts were anxious to see if they could catch the team on a down note. They put some pressure on Rangers starter Jesse Jones immediately in the top of the first inning. Rickey Risden walked, but was picked off. However, the next four batters would also reach, culminating in a pair of runs.

The Rangers got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning as Rob Pederson singled home Eric Becker, who had doubled to start the frame.

The Scouts' Anthony Ragan hit a sac fly in the top of the second to give the opponent a 3-1 lead.

Nick Gilmore started the Rangers comeback in the bottom of the second with a leadoff single. Kyle Moyer would single with one out and Brandon Ward walked to load the bases. Mike Seebock worked a bases-load walk to make it 3-2. Moyer would tie the game scoring on a wild pitch. Becker's groundout produced the go-ahead run.

Seebock relieved Jones in the third and put up a zero. Meanwhile, the Rangers added on against Scouts pitcher Anthony Ragan. Pederson walked and stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Mark Carpenter also walked and stole second. Gilmore singled home Pederson for a 5-3 lead. Noah Schleinitz followed with an RBI single. Moyer walked to load the bases. Gilmore scored on a wild pitch and Schleinitz scored on a passed ball a pitch later for an 8-3 advantage. Brandon Ward's groundout resulted in another run to make it 9-3 after three innings.

Carpenter was hit by a pitch with the bases juiced in the fourth to increase the lead to 10-3. The Scouts answered with an RBI groundout in the fifth to make it 10-4.

Joe Becker took over on the mound in the 6th and tossed 3 scoreless innings. The outing set the all-time record in team history for most appearances as a pitcher (175).

The Rangers continued to add on in the 7th inning. Jones started with a single and Pederson drove him in with a hit. Cooper Nolte singled and Carp walked to load the bases. Gilmore plated a pair with a single, and Carpenter later scored on a passed ball for a 14-4 score. With two outs, Ward laced an RBI single to right. But the run-rule eluded the team as the game advanced to the 8th inning.

After Joe Becker blanked the Scouts in the top of the 8th, the Rangers finished up the run-rule in the bottom of the inning. Eric Becker singled with one out and went to third on Jones' double. Pederson became the 4th victim of the HBP, which loaded up the bases. Nolte ended things with a walk-off single.

Mike Seebock picked up his 2nd win of the season, allowing no hits over 3 innings of relief, an unearned run, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Joe Becker picked up his 3rd save of the year as he also struck out 2 over 3 innings.
