Games   23, 24

The regular season came to a close on a winning note for the Rangers as they survived a sweltering heat and a split DH on multiple locations to finish with a 15-9 record and a No. 4 seed in the playoffs.

The Rangers survived a late meltdown in game 1 by overcoming the Machine 10-7 at Carroll high school.  Starting pitcher Brandon Saylor was greeted with a bloop and a bleeder, followed by a single down the third base line to start the top of the first inning. Saylor did record a pair of K's, but a fielding error gave the Machine a quick 3-0 advantage.

The Rangers, leaders in the MVABL in hit-by-pitches, continued their propensity to get plunked as 4 of the first 6 batters were hit by pitches. In between the bruises, Robert Riley had an RBI fielder's choice, but Eric Becker's HBP took the Machine pitcher from the game. In came Machine ace Andrew Madlinger to face Chris Ridl. Ridl greeted a first pitch curveball over the left field fence for a grand slam, his first career longball.

Meanwhile Saylor would settle in and allow just one more hit, an RBI single from Evan Kelsey, over the next 4 innings. The Rangers continued to back up their pitcher as Becker smacked his second home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth. The Rangers turned to the bullpen in the 6th staked to a 6-4 lead. The Rangers increased their lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Chris Ridl, who drove in Kyle Moyer who doubled with two outs.

Noah Schleinitz relieved Saylor and tossed scoreless frames in the sixth and the seventh, but the Machine finally manufactured 4 hits and 3 runs in the 8th to tie the game at 7-7. With an out in the bottom of the 8th inning, Markus Neff greeted reliever Zach Seagraves with a long solo HR to give the Rangers back the lead. Riley and Moyer followed with singles. A failed pickoff attempt at first allowed Riley to score. And two batters later, Ridl delivered his 6th RBI of the game to bring home Moyer.

After a leadoff single for the Machine in the 9th, Schleinitz punched out the side to end the game. Noah finished with 8 Ks in 4 innings of relief, and Saylor struck out 9 in 5 innings.

The team headed down to Middletown Madison for game 2 to face the Stars. The Rangers put together a run in the first and third innings, on RBIs from Moyer and Ridl, respectively. But the Stars hung tough with a pair of runs of their own. A tie ballgame heading in to the bottom of the 4th, the Rangers put the game out of reach as the first 8 batters reached base and scored. The 9th batter, Jonmarc Lippincott, produced an RBI single to account for his 900th career hit as a member of the team. Ridl, Moyer, and Mike Seebock all had run-scoring hits in the inning.

Hunter Kraynak allowed 1 earned run over 5 innings for his first Rangers win of the season. Ryan Qvick tossed two scoreless, hitless innings of relief and struck out 5. The Rangers won 10-2.
