Game  28

The Rangers blew several chances in an intradivisional matchup with the Wild Boars on Thursday night at Howell Field and settled for a 3-3 tie after 8 innings -- a game called due to darkness.

Jesse Jones started on the mound for the Rangers against the Boars' Dylan Bower. Jones hit the first batter of the game, but struck out the next batter and got two ground outs to get out of the first inning. The Rangers threatened in the bottom of the inning as Eric Becker and Jones each singled. But a rally was snuffed out as Jones was caught stealing and back-to-back groundouts kept the game scoreless after one inning.

Both teams went out quietly in the second. The Boars took advantage of Jones' third HBP and a walk, to tally two runs on Mookie Holmes' double.

Jones struck out 4 batters in the top of the fourth allowing for the Rangers to mount a comeback in the bottom of the frame. With two outs, Rob Pederson and Markus Neff singled. Cooper Nolte roped a two-run single to tie the game.

Jones succumbed to the 4-hit batsman rule with two outs in the fifth and was forced from the game despite striking out 8 batters and allowing just one hit. Markus Neff entered for some relief and a groundout. Both sides threw a goose egg on the board in the sixth as the teams headed to the 7th still tied at 2-2.

Neff walked Kyle Evans to kick off the top of the 7th. He struck out Bower and got Ryan Earley out on a sac bunt. After a walk to Scarberry, Sid Srinivasan singled home the go-ahead run.

The next chance for the Rangers came with the middle of its order in the bottom of the 7th. Pederson blooped in a single to lead off the inning. Neff followed with a single. Nolte grounded out, and the Boars were forced to walk Nick Gilmore to load the bases with one out. Brandon Ward hit a sac fly to center to tie the game, but Neff was out tagging up to third for the final out and forcing extra innings.

Eric Becker moved to the mound in relief of Neff in the 8th. He got the first two batters to ground out, but gave up a double to Markus Hall. Becker then got Holmes to fly out to give the Rangers one more chance at a walk-off win.

Two batters made it on to the basepaths, but a pickoff and a third caught stealing of the game thwarted a rally. With nightfall approaching, the game was called as final.
